3/16″ Stainless Steel Round T-316

316 stainless steel round is a non-magnetic, round bar of chromium-nickel steel that contains molybdenum. It’s known for its strength and resistance to corrosion, especially in marine environments.

Properties:

  • Strength: Slightly stronger than 303 and 304 stainless steel
  • Corrosion resistance: More resistant to corrosion than 304 stainless steel, especially in chloride environments
  • Temperature: Maintains its properties in high and cryogenic temperatures

Cost:

  • More expensive than 304 stainless steel because of its higher nickel content and added molybdenum

Uses:

  • Superior corrosion resistance:

The addition of molybdenum in 316 stainless steel gives it significantly better corrosion resistance compared to other stainless steel grades, making it ideal for harsh environments like saltwater.

  • Marine applications:

Widely used in marine equipment like boat hulls, railings, propellers, and fittings due to its ability to withstand saltwater corrosion.

  • Chemical processing:

Suitable for chemical storage and handling equipment due to its resistance to a wide range of chemicals.

  • Food industry:

Used in food processing equipment like conveyor belts, tanks, and pipes because it is easily cleanable and resistant to food-grade chemicals.

  • Medical applications:

Can be used in surgical instruments and implants due to its biocompatibility.

Other potential applications:

  • Laboratory equipment
  • Heat exchangers
  • Pumps and valves
  • Water filtration systems
  • Architectural components in coastal areas
  • Chemical transport containers

* Prices subject to change without notice due to the Metals Market fluctuations.
* All ‘value length’ and ‘value pack’ item measurements are subject to a “mill tolerance”. A product may be produced several thousandths of an inch, either over or under the stated thickness, and still be within “mill tolerance”. This does NOT apply to Cut To Size items. Those will be +.125″, -0.00″ tolerances.
