DESCRIPTION
16 GA Cold Rolled Steel Sheet
A 16-gauge cold rolled steel sheet is a sheet of steel that has been further processed at room temperature to achieve a smooth surface finish, improved strength, and precise thickness control. It begins as hot rolled steel, which is then cooled and passed through rollers again, compressing the metal and refining its surface and dimensional accuracy.
The result is a high-quality sheet with a thickness of approximately 0.060 inches (1.52 mm) that is ideal for applications where appearance and precision are important.

Process:
After hot rolling, the steel is cooled and run through rollers at room temperature, which compresses and strengthens it while producing a smooth, uniform finish.
Benefits:
  • Higher strength due to cold working
  • Smoother, cleaner surface with no mill scale
  • Tighter dimensional tolerances than hot rolled sheet
  • Excellent for painting, powder coating, and fabrication
Drawbacks:
  • More expensive than hot rolled sheet because of the additional processing
  • Slightly lower ductility compared to hot rolled steel
Common applications:
Used in products where a clean appearance and accurate dimensions matter, such as electrical panels, appliances, furniture, automotive parts, cabinetry, shelving, and various construction or industrial components.

* Prices subject to change without notice due to the Metals Market fluctuations.
* All ‘value length’ and ‘value pack’ item measurements are subject to a “mill tolerance”. A product may be produced several thousandths of an inch, either over or under the stated thickness, and still be within “mill tolerance”. This does NOT apply to Cut To Size items. Those will be +.125″, -0.00″ tolerances.
